The Soroptimist International Club of Greater Victoria was chartered March 21, 1932 and sponsored by SI Vancouver. We continue to be a very active service club. We welcome other like minded women who share our dream of helping women to be their best.
Our Mission:
‘to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.’
Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships. By helping women to improve their own lives we also have a positive influence on their families and communities…a perfect win-win situation. Check out our Facebook page, Soroptimist International Greater Victoria.
Meetings:
We meet the second Tuesday each month (September to June) at the Native Friendship Centre 231 Regina Street, Victoria BC. Arrive at 5:30 pm for a potluck dinner and “social time” and the meeting starts at 6:00pm. Good food and good fellowship are key as we work together on a variety of projects. Some meetings also feature a guest speaker.
What we Do:
As a Soroptimist Club we have four main “Local” projects to focus on:
- Live Your Dream: Education and Training Award for Women www.soroptimist.org/awards/live-your-dream-awards
- Dream It Be It: Career Support for Girls www.soroptimist.org/our-programs/career-guidance-girls
- Transition Houses in Victoria – Cooking Dinners, providing New Beginning Hampers and other funding as required
- 1 Up (Back Pack Program)
- Christmas for Transition Houses and Homeless Women
We offer opportunities for members to participate at various levels; in fundraising efforts (to fund our projects), club socials, hands on projects and learning from guest speakers and other Soroptimist members in our club.
We also meet and form friendships with Soroptimist members from other regions and countries, all working toward similar goals of helping other women to be their best.
You should like to eat well and laugh a lot to be a Soroptimist. All Soroptimist members want to make a positive difference for women and girls, helping them achieve their dreams.
Membership is by invitation and interested women are welcome to attend one or more meetings, getting to know us and share ideas, challenges and inspiration.
