THE ROAD TO EQUALITY, the next Soroptimist International (SI) President’s Appeal beginning October 1, was announced by President Elect Sharon Fisher (SI Langleys) at the 21st SI Convention in Malaysia, as she invited Soroptimists around the world to join her on a two-year road trip to find and empower women and girls who have been left behind.
At the recent Western Canada Region Fall Retreat, President Sharon shared her vision and goals with members in attendance, encouraging them to “get on the bus” as we collectively follow The Road to Equality.
Western Canada Region is proud to have one of our members elected to this important position and raised over $1,000 at Retreat to donate to the appeal.
The appeal will focus on the role Soroptimist can play in raising awareness about issues that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, Domestic violence, trafficking, migration and the rights of older women. I ask all clubs in the Region to dig deep and donate to the appeal remembering that Gender Equality is considered one of the greatest Human Rights challenges of our time.
