SI of Winnipeg was privileged to win a Premier’s 2012 Service Award for community groups. The club was honoured at a dinner where President, Kay Stewart was presented with a plaque from Premier Greg Selinger.
SI of Winnipeg member Sally Thomas also won a Lt. Governor’s Award 2012 for community service for her work with Osteoporosis Canada, Soroptimist International of Winnipeg and Provincial Council of Women and Winnipeg Council of Women. Sally was honoured at the same dinner and was presented a plaque by Lt. Governor Phillip Lee.
Both Sally Thomas and SI of Winnipeg were also nominees for YWCA Women of Distinction Awards and 10 club members were treated to this gala event as nominees. Although not winners, the club delighted to be recognized for our work and satisfied that the winners in our club’s category, Circle of Inspiration, went to 3 women working in the Winnipeg community to Stop Human Trafficking – Hon. Joy Smith, Dianne Redsky and Diane Bussey.
Sally will also be receiving a Celebrating Women Award in July given by the Provincial Council of Women to an outstanding member of the Federate Councils who has made significant contributions to the enhancement of women’s rights.
