Can you imagine:
Having to deliver your baby on the floor because there are not enough beds?
Knowing that the odds of you and/or your baby surviving are not in your favor?
Having to bring your own food and drink to a birthing center when your child is about to be born?
Not knowing when your child will be born?
These are all challenges that women face when giving birth in Papua New Guinea.
December 10th marks the first anniversary of Birthing in the Pacific (BIP). This project was set up in order to increase access to both skilled birth attendants and functioning health care services in Papua New Guinea with the aim of decreasing maternal morbidity and mortality, and increasing the knowledge base and resources for midwives. We are making a difference!
Birthing in the Pacific embodies Educate to Lead in every aspect of education and leadership. Your donation to this worthwhile project truly is saving women’s lives, one woman at a time! Please give generously to this fantastic project by sending all donations to SIA Headquarters, for onward transmission to Birthing in the Pacific. Donations should be marked December 10th President’s Appeal 2012.
December 10th is also an opportunity for us to continue our mission of advocating for women and girls.
This year, in recognition of the 2011 December 10th Appeal, Birthing in the Pacific, SI is promoting something that WCR is already great at… Flash mobs!
Soroptimist’s around the world are encouraged to organize a flash mob to use our collective voice to encourage governments all over the world to proactively invest in the training and resources needed to avert preventable deaths associated with pregnancy and childbirth, just as SI is doing in Papua New Guinea with this year’s December 10th Appeal.
What is your club going to do for the December 10th Presidents appeal? Let me know and I will share it with the members.
