The Frances Wagner Woman of Achievement Award is presented annually. The nominees are judged for their achievements in their field of work and in the community.
This year the Frances Wagner award goes to a woman who in one form or another has been caring for people for most of her life. (27 and counting). Sally Thomas is a nurse who is well respected in her field. She was a nurse educator and lecturer at the St. Boniface School of Nursing and the University of Manitoba. She has also performed nursing duties in Karachi, Pakistan, La Paz , Bolivia, and Bogota, Columbia.
After retiring from nursing Sally volunteered with Osteoporosis Canada, Manitoba chapter. Her efforts here have earned her numerous awards including the volunteer of distinction award which the national Osteoporosis Canada organization gives to one volunteer in Canada per year.
Sally was also awarded the 2012 volunteer Manitoba Lt. governor’s Award, and the 2012 YWCA Woman of Distinction award.Other contributions of service include an 11 year membership in UNIFEM; The council of Women of Manitoba, and the National Council of Women of Canada Development Organization.
All of her work has helped promote the social and economic advancement of women.
Finally she has been a Soroptimist for 27 years. Sally is a member of Soroptimist International of Winnipeg.
