We are now a few months into the year with our Governor Dana Martin and the WCR webpage is absolutely fantastic. If your club members have not visited the page, I encourage you to share it with them, in fact, have them save the following link to their favorites. http://wcsoroptimist.org/
SI Ridge Meadows recently participated in a community resource fair; this enabled our club to network and create awareness regarding Soroptimist. We were able to hand out information and applications for the Women’s Opportunity award as well as the Violet Richardson award. In addition our club targeted teenage girls by handing out the teen dating violence book marks and the SIA promotional cards. These cards are $20 for a pack of 120. Ideas for these cards are to leave them with various businesses in the community as well as libraries, coffee shops and health clubs. Create awareness and get the Soroptimist name out there. I believe that we all find it difficult to attract the generation to join our clubs and creating awareness with the teens is starting where it matters most. The teen dating violence bookmarks are $6 for a pack of 50; a small price to pay to help the teens. I am sure that this would be within a clubs budget. Perhaps leave the bookmarks at local teen hangouts, coffee shops, health clubs as well as the schools.
In creating public awareness regarding Soroptimist, I have come to understand the value and importance of having Soroptimist business cards. They fit into your purse, pocket, drawer and you can even leave them in the car. I keep a handful in the pocket of my jacket and pull them out when talking about Soroptimist. The following 2 links are the templates for Soroptimist business cards back and front. Please share them with your members and encourage them to have Soroptimist business cards. …help to spread the word.
September brought us to the Western Canada region leadership retreat, and what a lot of fun that was. You know, I believe that we all know what Soroptimist stands for and what we do, however when someone asks us the question…….what is Soroptimist? …what happens I ask myself, …….result….. a blank mind.
At the leadership retreat we discussed an “elevator speech” and did some group work on what we thought we should say. Click here for the elevator speech .
Live your dream? How do we help women and girls do that? All Western Canada region clubs have the Governor’s challenge to have all members help to build a collective impact by signing up for Live Your Dream, and asking friends , family and colleagues to do the same. Talk to your members and have them sign up for this wonderful campaign.
We can do this together ladies, collectively as a team. We ARE women at our best helping women and girls be their best.
Get the word out there, shout SOROPTIMIST from the roof tops. We need to get our message out there and we have many ways of doing it
Please call me for help regarding public awareness, questions or just a chat,
We are BEST for women!
