Programs – Live Your Dream Awards

Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women

The Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Each year, more than $1.6 million in education grants are awarded to more than 1,200 women, many of whom have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence and/or drug and alcohol abuse. Live Your Dream Award recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.

In addition to providing the primary financial support for their families, eligible applicants must be enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program and must demonstrate financial need.

Soroptimist International of Calgary provides up to three awards annually totaling between $6000.00 and $10,000.00.

Who are the Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women recipients?

Our most recent recipient is attending Mount Royal University in her first year of a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education program majoring in Physical Literacy. She sees this degree as a stepping stone to help get her closer to her dreams of helping and educating our future generations to be physically literate and happy people. Brooklyn has a three-year- old son.

A second recipient is enrolled in a Bachelor degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies at St. Mary’s University. She is the mother of two children. She is looking to her degree to help her have a better understanding of psychological issues that often go hand-in-hand with women in need. Her goal is to work with women coming from an abusive relationship.

A third recipient is attending Lethbridge College in the General Studies program taking electives for entry into the Licensed Practical Nursing programme in September. She has two children. Her dream is to reach her goal of better providing for her daughters and to show them that any goal is achievable no matter where you come from or how old you are.
